Keane leads conference spring academic honors

LANCASTER, Pa. – Kevin Keane (Bethesda, Md./Walt Whitman), a junior on the McDaniel men's golf team, was named the Centennial Conference (CC) Scholar-Athlete of the Year in his sport.

Keane was one of 38 Green Terror spring student-athletes named to the CC Spring Academic Honor Roll.

Keane, a business administration major, posted a 3.895 cumulative grade-point average through the end of the fall semester. That was the highest GPA among juniors and seniors on the all-conference team.

Keane was a first-team all-conference nod after placing third at the CC Championship in April. He posted a 76.1 stroke average over 22 rounds, including four top-five finishes in 11 events.

Men's lacrosse junior Jakob Katzen (Wilmington, Del./Wilmington Friends), softball sophomore Michaela Persinger (Emmitsburg, Md./Catoctin), men's outdoor track and field senior Gavin Gibson (Newark, Del./Sanford) and men's outdoor track and field junior Patrick Smith (Frederick, Md./Gov. Thomas Johnson) joined Keane on the Academic All-Centennial team. Persinger earned first-team all-conference honors while Gibson was a second-team honoree. Katzen and Smith were each tabbed honorable mention. The Academic All-Centennial team recognizes student-athletes who receive both all-conference and Academic Honor Roll honors.

The group was part of the 38 named to the Academic Honor Roll. To be nominated for the honor roll, a student-athlete must be of sophomore standing or higher and have a cumulative grade-point average of at least 3.40. The honored Green Terror student-athletes are:

Senior Matt Cramer (New Market, Md./Oakdale), junior Kevin Keane (Bethesda, Md./Walt Whitman) and senior Shawn MacBurnie (Beverly, Mass./St. Mary's Lynn).

Women's Golf

Senior Allison Isidore (Montclair, N.J./Montclair).

In all, 699 student-athletes from the CC's 11 member institutions were named to the 2019 Spring Academic Honor Roll and 129 were tabbed Academic All-Centennial.
