BALTIMORE, Md. – Washington (Md.) scored three times in the first inning en route to a 6-0 victory over McDaniel in the first elimination game of the 2012 Centennial Conference (CC) baseball tournament on Saturday.

Patrick Christopher (Union Beach, N.J./St. John Vianney), Jimmy Najera (Fort Washington, Md./DeMatha) and Mike Freeman (Lititz, Pa./Warwick) each had one hit for the Green Terror (24-12), who was shut out for the first time this season.

Kyle Aldrich went the distance for the Shoremen (28-11), who added a 10-6 win over Johns Hopkins later in the day to advance to their first-ever CC title game on Sunday.

Sean Cannole led off the bottom of the first with a single to center before John Rolewicz was by a 3-2, two-out pitch.

Tyler Cotterell followed, taking a 3-2 pitch deep over the left-field fence for a 3-0 lead.

Consecutive one-out single from Joe Willis and Nick Marinelli coupled with a two-out knock from Ian Remington stretched the lead to 4-0 in the second.

A Willis single and stolen base followed by a Marinelli single pushed the lead to 5-0 in the home fourth.

Marinelli stole second and took third on a Cannole single before scoring on a Remington sacrifice fly to set the final margin.

McDaniel will now wait to see if it earns an Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference (ECAC) South Championship bid, which will be announced on Monday, May 14. The first round of the tournament is scheduled for Wednesday, May 16.
