WESTMINSTER, Md. – McDaniel jumped out to an early 7-1 lead before staving off a Dickinson rally for a 9-6 Centennial Conference (CC) baseball victory on Tuesday.

Marshall Betts (Berlin, Md./Stephen Decatur) led the Green Terror (17-12, 6-5 CC) with two hits, including an eighth-inning home run for some insurance.

Steven Haynes and Joseph Tursi recorded three hits apiece to pace the Red Devils (11-19, 2-9 CC), who finished with a 13-9 advantage in hits.

Sean Sivo (Ellicott City, Md./Howard) led off the bottom of the first with a walk before an error on a hit-and-run play put runners at first and second. Back-to-back groundouts scored Sivo for a 1-0 lead.

A Tursi single and Sam Wachs double evened the game a half-inning later.

Brandon Hayward (Salisbury, Md./J.M. Bennett) drew a one-out walk in the bottom of the second. After a groundout and wild pitch put Hayward on third, Jonathan McKinney (Jonestown, Pa./Northern Lebanon) delivered a single through the left side for a 2-1 lead.

Sivo follow with an infield single to put runners at first and second for Marty Windisch (Manchester, Md./Manchester Valley), who tripled to the gap for a 4-1 advantage.

A wild pitch allowed the freshman to score for a 5-1 lead.

A Betts one-out single followed by a Joe Fiore (Point Pleasant, N.J./Point Beach) triple pushed the advantage to 6-1 in the bottom of the third.

Hayward followed with a sacrifice fly for a 7-1 lead.

Benn Parker led off the visitor fifth with a single up the middle before Mitch Helmandollar single put two runners on.

A fielder's choice made it runners at the corners with one out before an RBI groundout and Haynes double cut the deficit to 7-3.

Helmandallar took a Green Terror pitcher deep for the first time this season with one-out in the seventh inning to trim the deficit to 7-4.

A three-base error and Hank Sanders sacrifice fly made it a 7-5 game.

With one out in the bottom of the eighth, Betts went yard over the left field fence before Hayward doubled with two outs.

A Tyler Ferretti (Hillsborough, N.J./Hillsborough) single up the middle plated Hayward to stretch the lead back to four.

A Helmandallar one-out walk and stolen bases before a fielding error put runners at the corners in the top of the ninth.

Sanders followed with a sacrifice fly to trim the deficit to three. After a single brought the tying run to the plate, Jack Dowd (Friendship, Md./Bishop McNamara) induced a foul-fly to pick up his first save and hand Andrew Monger (Ellicott City, Md./Mt. Hebron) his second win. Monger pitched seven innings with six strikeouts while Dowd fanned two in the final two frames.

McDaniel concludes the home-and-home series with Dickinson in Carlisle on Friday. Game time is 3:30 p.m.
