Brehm fans another 20

KISSIMMEE, Fla. – After managing just two hits in the day's first game, McDaniel rapped out 10 hits in the second contest to forge a split at the Rebel Spring Games in non-conference softball action on Wednesday.

The Green Terror (4-3) dropped a 5-0 decision to Illinois Wesleyan before rallying to defeat Defiance, 6-5.

Rachel Sidney (East Meadow, N.Y./East Meadow) led the way in the nightcap with a 3-for-4 outing.

Alyssa Vorel struck out nine batters for the Titans (4-0) for the shutout.

Katelyn Samples led the Yellow Jackets (1-5) with a 2-for-3 in the losing effort.

In the nightcap, Jordan Beans (Hanover, Pa./Hanover) reached on a one-out error in the bottom of the fifth before advancing to third on a Erinne Warrenfeltz (Smithsburg, Md./Middletown) single and scoring on a Jackie Liebowitz (Bellerose, N.Y./Benjamin N. Cordozo)single to knot the game at 5-all.

After Caroline Brehm (Hanover, Pa./New Oxford) – on in relief after throwing the day's first game – retired the side in order in the top of the sixth, Lauren Fusco (Laurel, Md./St. Vincent Pallotti) reached on a one-out error and stole second.

With two outs, Sidney singled to score Fusco with the game-winning run.

Brehm made it 10 straight outs, including the final two of her nine strikeouts in 3 2/3 innings, to seal her third win of the season.

Samples singled to lead off the game before Macy Ferrall reached on an error.

After both advanced on a groundout, Samples scored on a Allison Jamiot single and Ferrall came home on a Brittany Shough single two batters later for a 2-0 lead.

Jessica Mandula walked to lead off the second and Aubrie Ridinger singled to put runners at the corners.

An error allowed Mandula to score before Katie Miller drove in Ridinger with a sacrifice fly.

Singles from Fusco and Sidney put runners at the corners with one out in the home third before Sam Stitely (Westminster, Md./North Carroll) ripped a pinch-hit double to clear the bases and cut the deficit in half.

A Samples single, hit batter, passed ball and wild pitch stretched the lead to 5-2 in the top of the fourth.

Liebowitz singled to lead off the fouth before pinch-runner Lindsey Blohm (Bel Air, Md./Toms River North [N.J.]) scored on a Stephanie Maring (Woodbine, Md./South Carroll) double one batter later.

With one out, Fusco drove in Maring to trim the deficit to one.

Against Illinois Wesleyan, a pair of error led to five unearned runs in the fifth inning.

Jessica Toth walked to lead off the frame before stealing second and taking third on the error that allowed Vorel to reach.

After a groundout, Courtney Martin reached on a sacrifice-fly attempt for the second error of the inning, scoring Toth in the process.

A Sara Daley single plated Vorel before Keri Leach tripled to clear the bases. She later scored on a n Allie Riordan double.

Brehm went the distance in game one, striking out 11. She now has 68 for the season.

The Green Terror returns to action against Utica, Rutgers-Camden and Otterbein on Thursday. The first game begins at 1 p.m.
