WESTMINSTER, Md. – Seven members of the McDaniel softball team have been named 2019 Easton/National Fast Pitch Coaches Association (NFCA) Division III Scholar-Athletes, released recently.
Senior Kristina Shank (Mardela Springs, Md./Mardela) joined juniors Paige Bleyer (Cambridge, Md./Cambridge South Dorchester), Cassie Rickrode (Hanover, Pa./Delone Catholic), Miranda Thompson (Columbia, Md./Atholton) and sophomore Michaela Persinger (Emmitsburg, Md./Catoctin). Freshmen Megan Horsey (Elkton, Md./Bohemia Manor) and Melinda Morgan (Elkton, Md./Bohemia Manor) were also honored after one year on campus.
Shank, an outfielder, started 34 of her 36 appearances. She hit .279 with six doubles, four triples and six home runs for a team-best .587 slugging. She also walked 25 times and scored 27 runs.
Bleyer, a pitcher, appeared in six games. She struck out 15 in 21 1/3 innings.
Rickrode, a pitcher, went 6-8 in the circle with a 3.43 ERA in 98 innings. She struck out 43 in 26 appearances. She also had two saves and two shutouts.
Thompson, an infielder, appeared in 23 games with 18 starts. She hit .238 with a pair of doubles.
Persinger, an outfielder, started 35 of her 36 appearance. She hit .324 with nine doubles, three triples and a home run for a .486 slugging percentage. She drove in 23 runs and scored 23.
Horsey, a catcher, started 29 games among her 32 appearances. She hit .382 with seven doubles. She drove in 17 runs and scored 19.
Morgan, a first baseman, started 12 of the 15 games in which she appeared. She had seven hits that included four doubles.
In total, 1,928 Division III softball players were honored by the NFCA for having a grade-point average of 3.5 or higher.
The Green Terror finished the season 21-16 overall (8-8 CC).
