Miller records five goals, one assist in important road victory

THE SKINNY
McDaniel had the final say in a back-and-forth affair at Dickinson, tallying the final three goals of an offensive showdown to earn a key conference victory 18-16 on the road.

THE LEADERS
• Emma Miller (Ellicott City, Md./Marriotts Ridge) led the Green Terror with five goals and one assist. She also corralled nine draw controls.
Kealey Allison (Frankford, Del./Indian River) finished with four goals and five draw controls.

FOR THE FOES
• Liz Barroll scored four goals to lead the Red Devils.
• Delaney Herbert added four goals and one assist.

THE REST OF THE STORY
• In a tightly contested first quarter that ultimately featured 14 combined goals, Liz Barroll put the Dickinson on the board first with a free-position goal 43 seconds into the game. Natalie Hoff (Westminster, Md./South Carroll) responded on the advantage before Delaney Herbert hit another goal from the eight-meter arc for a 2-1 lead with 10:24 to play. Kealey Allison scored the next three for a natural hat trick before Acadia Noll (Ellicott City, Md./Marriotts Ridge) hit a free-position tally for a 5-2 lead with 8:55 remaining. After the teams traded two-goal stretches, Alex Goles scored twice as part of three straight for the Red Devils to tie the game at 7-all after one quarter.
• The exchange of goals continued through the first half of the second quarter before a Liv Yeagle goal broke a 10-all deadlock with 7:51 showing. Herbert and Yeagle added goals to give the hosts a 13-10 lead at the intermission.
Katie Baur (Elkridge, Md./Howard) opened the second half with her first of two third-quarter goals off a pass from Hoff. Herbert responded in kind just over three minutes later before Michaela Reid (Abingdon, Md./Patterson Mill) started a three-goal run in 3 minutes, 27 seconds to tie the game at 14-all. Allison and Baur also contributed in the run. Syd MacKeigan gave Dickinson the lead back in the final minute of the quarter.
• At the 12:25 mark of the final period, Emma Miller re-tied the game at 15-all before Yeagle responded off a pass from Riley Kuehn to take back the lead. With 6:05 remaining, Miller tied the game for the ninth and final time. Just 39 seconds later, Hoff put McDaniel in front for the first time since 9-8 early in the second quarter and Miller added her fifth for insurance with 3:30 to play.

THE INSIDE STORY

Natalie Hoff tied her career high with six points on three goals and three assists.
Daniella Leighty (Bel Air, Md./C. Milton Wright) led McDaniel with three ground balls.
• After starting the day as one of six CC teams within a game of fourth place, the Green Terror now sits in a three-way tie for fourth place with three games remaining in the conference schedule, including two against the two teams that are one game behind McDaniel in the standings.
